About the book.
This book is for designers and non-designers alike, students, teachers, and professionals looking to improve how they communicate information visually through a human-centered approach.
I wrote this from my perspective as a designer and educator, deeply invested in understanding my audience’s needs and creating experiences that meet them where they are to help them engage with complex information. The book explores the roots of data-driven design, empathy and human-centered design, data literacy and truthfulness, how to craft meaningful narratives with thoughtful visual systems, and measuring the impact of our work.
A range of inspiring case studies help others understand, learn, and make meaningful steps towards improving our world – whether that goal be to reduce carbon emissions, better communicate the spread of global disease, eliminate gender and racial inequities, and many more.
“Addressing the need for how to emotionally tell a story through the use of engaging information graphics - to help our world be a better place for the many, and not the few - is long overdue.”- Nancy Wynn
“Marchese’s text is an excellent pedagogical resource with compelling case studies and methodologies for data visualization.”- Maria Smith Bohannon
